Inland Northwest Council
Youth Protection Policy

The Inland Northwest Council has established a Youth Protection Training (YPT) policy to ensure our youth members' continued safety and well-being. This policy states that Youth Protection Training will remain valid for the duration of a unit's charter year, or an individual’s registration period if they are not affiliated with a specific unit. The core purpose of this approach is to guarantee that all adult leaders remain compliant with Scouting America safety standards, which ultimately helps protect the young individuals we serve.

Youth Protection Training is essential to our commitment to safeguarding the children and teens involved in Scouting. The program is designed to equip adult leaders with the knowledge and tools needed to recognize, prevent, and respond to potential situations that may endanger a child's safety. By ensuring that the training remains valid throughout the entirety of a leader’s involvement, we minimize the risk of any adult leader inadvertently participating in activities without up-to-date knowledge of youth protection protocols.

The safety of our youth members is our utmost priority, and this policy is one of the proactive steps we take to prevent any potential risks or oversights. As a leader, the responsibility to protect the well-being of young scouts is not only a moral obligation but also a legal one. Leaders who complete their Youth Protection Training are empowered with the knowledge to recognize warning signs, report concerns, and create a safer environment for all involved. This policy eliminates the possibility of an adult leader inadvertently being placed in a position where their YPT has expired, which could cause them to be ineligible to serve as a registered leader.

The importance of safety cannot be overstated, and it is essential that we all do our part to uphold these policies. By ensuring that all adult leaders have up-to-date Youth Protection Training, we are not only complying with regulatory standards but are actively working to prevent any situations that could compromise the safety of our young members. Together, through vigilant adherence to these policies, we can create a safer scouting experience and provide peace of mind for both youth and their families.
